Samsung has introduced new limited edition “Star Wars” versions of its Powerbot robotic vacuum cleaner, model VR7000. The result of a collaboration between Samsung and Star Wars fans, the vacuum designs are intended to captivate fans in anticipation of the December release of “Star Wars: The Last Jedi.”
According to Samsung, the company worked closely with fans at every step, from product planning to design, production, marketing and distribution. It was the first time the company took this approach to building and launching a product.
The Darth Vader version of the Powerbot is said to feature a specially created cover using custom premium materials that resembles Darth Vader’s all-black mask. It also features WiFi connectivity and includes a remote control. The Stormtrooper version replicates the look of a white and black Stormtrooper helmet. Both models also feature sound effects appropriate for each character. For example, when powering on the Darth Vader unit, the vacuum will play and mimic the character’s infamous breathing, the company said.
“We are very pleased to be part of the excitement leading up to the release of the Last Jedi and to be launching our limited edition Powerbot in partnership with Star Wars fans,” said B.S. Suh, evp/digital appliances business at Samsung Electronics. “From its industry-leading suction power, slim design and smart features, to the wonderful character-themed voice feedback and sound effects, we are confident the Star Wars limited edition of the VR7000 will be a big hit.”
As part of the launch, Samsung will also introduce its “Vacuum Your Space” video, which was created by Star Wars fans. Other various fan-centric promotions with retail partners will roll out, the company said.
